Within many companies, enterprise learning is based on externally controlled seminars or formal e-learnings, which are planned by the human resources department. However, learning should be more likely base on the 70/20/10-rule.
- 70% workplace learning: learning by doing, informal learning
- 20% social learning: learning within a network, e.g. coaching, mentoring
- 10% formal learning: e.g. trainings, e-learnings, workshops, seminars
This, however, does not implay that you should entirely pass on externally controlled learning such as e.g. videobased e-learnings. No, they should be available to employees as a knowledge pool in the form of 10%, in order to build up formal knowledge. Because only the combination of formal and informal learning leads to success!
