70/20/10-rule within the learning process

Within many companies, enterprise learning is based on externally controlled seminars or formal e-learnings, which are planned by the human resources department. However, learning should be more likely base on the 70/20/10-rule.

  • 70% workplace learning: learning by doing, informal learning
  • 20% social learning: learning within a network, e.g. coaching, mentoring
  • 10% formal learning: e.g. trainings, e-learnings, workshops, seminars

This, however, does not implay that you should entirely pass on externally controlled learning such as e.g. videobased e-learnings. No, they should be available to employees as a knowledge pool in the form of 10%, in order to build up formal knowledge. Because only the combination of formal and informal learning leads to success!

Compared to earlier versions the local saving of Excel documents has only changed a little. If you have opened a workbook and you will switch into the backstage view - i.e. to file tab - you will find ways to select multiple locations. If you have a OneDrive account or another cloud feature, you can save your sheet also in the cloud, so that others can work with you on the file. If you would like to save only locally on your computer, just click on the computer. This shows you what you have recently used. You can click browse and you will see that you will have the opportunity to select a location and can save your file easily on your computer.

You are able to define the default saving location in the backstage view under options and saving. You can therefore set the computer as your default saving location. In addition, you can hide additional locations, set a local default location for your documents and you can even choose an own location for your personal templates.

What advantages does learning analytics offer in the education process?

When working with e-learning such as video-based e-learnings or social learning within a company, unequivocally large amounts of data will arise. The aim of learning analytics, which is a relatively young discipline, is to analyze these large amounts of data to optimize the learning process as well as the learning environment. In this, learner-specific datasets will be analyzed and interpreted in order to improve individual learning processes. Learning analytics therefore tries to generate predictions from data, which e.g. can be accessed from learning management systems, to customize the learning environment, the learning content as well as tasks according to the knowledge and competence level and the habits of the learners.

Learning analytics offers learners interpretations on the basis of their learning data. This allows to identify learning processes and possible problems. Based on these data as well as the corporate strategy further learning processes, learning objectives and development opportunities can be developed.
