Last week we reported about the importance of wikis in Knowledge Management and Human Resources Management in companies. Today we would like to tell you some facts, which are very important for the implementation of successful wikis.
According to Martin Seibert, a wiki expert, there exist three factors, which determine the successful introduction of wikis in companies:
Factors for a successful wiki
1. Success Factor Technology
The success factor technology contributes with approximately 30 % to the success of a wiki introduction. It is about the decision for the right wiki system for your business. The supply of good wiki engines is very diverse. You can use for example MediaWiki, DokuWiki, TWiki or Confluence Wiki.
2. Success Factor Organization
The success factor organization - with about 50 % - is to lay the foundation for the success of future wikis. There are a number of organizational measures necessary to avoid typical problems in wiki projects, e.g. promote motivation or eliminate fear and resistance.
3. Success Factor Culture
The success factor culture - with about 20 % - is highly dependent on an open corporate culture. This is necessary for the introduction of a wiki project. A wiki should be shared by all levels up to the top management. The top management has to exemplify the active and regular use of the wiki.
