If you buy a (video-based) e-learning or even create a course on your own, you want to make sure that this course is running in your learning management system (LMS). An LMS offers you the possibility to transfer your courses to your learners and track their learning progresses. It is important that your LMS can handle information such as true-false-messages, the spending time in the course and a completion status.
To ensure that your e-learning course will work well in your LMS, you have to make sure that this was published in the correct state. Therefore, the following options are available:
- SCORM 1.2
- SCORM 2004
- Tin Can (xAPI)
Usually, e-learning courses will be packaged as SCORM files and then integrated into an LMS. Whether your LMS can interact better with SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004, you can easily find out by testing both versions first of all. Please note that SCORM 2004 in turn offers multiple versions. If you know what state works best in your LMS, you just have to make sure that your (video-based) e-learning courses will always be produced in the same state.
