What target does competency management pursue within HR development?

Besides classical HR development, the organizational competency development in the sense of the 70/20/10 rule is getting more and more focused within companies. The key concept for this is called competency management. This aims to describe competences of employees, to make them transparent and to ensure the transfer, use and development of these competences.

Competences are divided into technical, methodological, social and personal competences. The competency management should guarantee that these competences of employees will be used effectively. Employees should be able to independently control their competence inventory in terms of competency profiles. Such a competency profile can also be virtually displayed on an e-portfolio. It contains existing competences, but also personal development needs. This e-portfolio could also be used to encourage reflections for e.g. employee interviews to ensure an individual competency development.
